A man who spiked candy with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual offences against two boys both nine and 10.
The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
However, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was held in detention before a further hearing on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
Ruben played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor said objects including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepson contacted the police about his concerns.
She said the man continued to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the situation.
Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member contacted the law enforcement a second time.
She stated the man then played the "treat game" in a space of five youngsters.
